Welcome to the Group Activities page. The Horror List has a long history of doing Group Views and Group Reads, beginning with The Exorcist in about 1990. Originally we did this as an aid to discussion on the list, figuring if we had all just seen the movie or read the book, everyone would have a fresh memory. It cut down drastically on the, “Well this is the way I remember it!” posts. What we discovered is that the Group Activities often sparked the most interesting discussions, so it’s a tradition that hasn’t died. Recently we’ve made another decision, to give more than a day or two warning about upcoming events, even the Group View. List Members were having more and more trouble finding the film in a timely manner, making discussions pretty light. Now there is at least a week for Group Views and a month or so for the Group Reads.

Group Reads have been very infrequent over the years, simply because it’s a logistical nightmare. The List Members tend to be heavy readers, and getting them to interrupt their schedule is difficult at best. That’s why we’re doing a year long Group Read this year, with a new novel about every month and a half.
