About Horror

HORROR is an e-mail discussion list based at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. The topic is horror (natural, supernatural, and preternatural) in film and literature. There are currently almost 300 members spread out over five continents, and with that many diverse people the discussion wanders quite a bit.

How it works: This is not a message board or chat room, but a quaint, old-fashioned listserv like the kind your grandma used in the 1980s. First, subscribe to the list by sending an e-mail to the list’s home. After you’re signed up, you will receive every e-mail any other list member sends to that home. Every e-mail you send to the home is distributed to all the other list members.

Conversation can range from current or classic horror films and stories, reviews, music, requests for information on a favorite novel, reminiscences of a film seen long ago, friendly debates, comics, computer games and in-depth critical analyses. Whatever your interest is in the realm of horror in film and literature, you’ll find someone to discuss it with here, from gore fests to subtle horrors.

Group activities occasionally occur, such as the Group View, where members watch a film over the weekend and have it fresh in their mind for discussion on Monday. Group Reads are more infrequent. Occasional regional get-togethers occur, and HORROR has even been rumored to have sparked a close friendship or two.
